PHILADELPHIA -- Linus Maiyo and Jane Murage of Kenya overcame soggy conditions to win the men's and women's divisions of the Broad Street Run.
Maiyo completed the 10-mile course in 47 minutes, 21 seconds on Sunday, beating Worku Beyi of Bronx, N.Y., by 4 seconds. Murage defended her 2008 title by finishing in 53:31, 13 seconds ahead of Buznesh Deba of the Bronx.
Maiyo took the lead at about the three-mile mark, but didn't break away from Beyi until the last quarter mile.
Murage broke quickly at the start and built an early 12-second lead en route to improving on last year's time of 54:16.
