The Colors of the Rainbow (and other various things found in nature)

*This post was mostly written yesterday, but I just didn't get a chance to finish it up and get it on here.

I work in cosmetics and went to school for photography, which you know if you know me at all. Being involved in various types of art throughout most of my life has exposed me to millions of beautiful, bold, deep, bright, radiant, extravagant colors. You may not see it in my attire (I wear head-to-toe black 99.9% of the time) but I love colors. I love the brilliant blues of the ocean and sky, the majestic greens of forests, the pinks and oranges in sunsets. You get the point: I love colors.
If you look at all the processed foods you get at the grocery store, how many colors are found in nature? Don't a lot of those things just look completely unnatural, not to mention taste unnatural? Today, I have rediscovered the beauty in fresh produce of all kinds of gorgeous colors.

I mean, look at lettuce, the variations in shade where it's a paler green on the inner leaves and the outer ones are a little darker. I love the colors of lettuce! It's got a refreshing taste that goes with so many things, and for me today, it was the base of a really yummy salad.

Aren't tomatoes beautiful? Their regal, radiant red contrasts so amazingly with the crisp green colors of lettuce. I could eat those little grape tomatoes like they're popcorn - I love when the skin bursts and all the seeds squish out. Yeah, that's a little weird, I know, but don't judge me. I just LOVE tomatoes.

Orange is my friend Liz's favorite color, and how can you not love it when you see these carrots? It's such a bright and cheerful color, and I love how sweet some carrots can be. I love how crunchy they are. I could probably be like Bugs Bunny and munch on carrots all the time.

The radish is such an underrated vegetable.  How great is that color? I love how some are more red, but sometimes I come across brilliant shades of fuchsia (those are my favorite). Radishes are another vegetable that I could just eat like popcorn - that mild, peppery flavor intrigues me and I adore it. I remember quite some time ago introducing my friend Laura to radishes and while I think she was kind of interested in them, I don't think she was quite as fascinated by radishes as I am. Oh, radishes, how I love thee!

Ahh, now we have the green bell pepper. My favorite thing about it is how juicy and fresh it tastes. I know a lot of people who don't really like peppers, but I have a love affair with all kinds of peppers, particularly green bell ones. I could probably eat them like apples (and I vaguely remember doing so when I worked at a grocery store in high school). Any way you prepare them (grill them, stuff them, chop them up in a salad) I love them.

Now, I know there's all kinds of other vegetables of all different colors (and some really pretty ones, too) but these just happen to be the particular vegetables that were in my big yummy salad today. I love how bright colors can make you feel so much happier, even if you're just eating them :)
